How long do condoms last? Most condoms are composed of a thin, synthetic rubber, called latex. On average, latex condoms typically last up to four years from the manufacturing date. But that’s not good enough for many men and women. If the condom is not stored correctly, condoms degenerate considerably over time.
Ideally, condoms should be stored in a cool, dry place: A pillow top or hot pad works great, but it isn’t practical everywhere or every time. If you’re in a relationship or just want to store your condoms in your bedroom overnight, there are other options. One option is to use a lubricant. Many lubricants can be used as a lubricant for condoms, and they come in special sizes. These condoms are available in a wide variety of flavors so even if you don’t love flavored lubricants, there is probably one that will suit you.
Lubrication increases the ability of the latex condom to stay in place: which increases its effectiveness and therefore your enjoyment of it. So don’t skimp on lube! It’s not a big expense; about a dollar for each package – or less if you buy them in bulk. There are also non-lubricated condoms available, but they do not provide the same protection as a lubricated condom. This is why it is important to always have new condom in the box, just in case your current condom wears out or breaks.
There are some condom sizes on the market that are only available in certain areas: such as ones made for female users. Some condoms have multiple chambers for different purposes, like some that fit each other and some that fit into each other to form “jelly” condoms. These condoms usually have a lot more girth than length. Because they are thicker, they usually do not last as long.
While it is true that most condoms have a shelf life of one year: not all of them have the same shelf life. Many condoms have an expiry date stamped on the package, while others do not. If you are buying condoms to be used for injectable contraceptives, it is important to ensure that they have at least an expiration date so that you do not use them after this date.
The proper way to store condoms: is to put them in a zip lock bag and add a little water or lubricant inside the bag. Do not store them in your wallet, because it could cause them to break apart. Always use fresh lubricant inside the condoms, and store them in a dry, clean location. Do not leave them in your wallet. If you have ever given a lubricant spray to someone, then you know what to do with it.
It is never to be put in a wallet, and it should never go near your underwear drawer.
